The First Wave
When I started this section nearly a year ago it was near to impossible to find
books on the first wave of feminism that were in print or recent writings on this
era:
"A lot of great titles about the First Wave are unfortunately out of print.
Amazon will look for these books for you, or you can try out-of-print booksellers, and
(of course) the library. Let's hope for some more modern interest in the women of this
movement. It's frustrating to see the hundreds of new print books on "The Founding Fathers"
of the U.S., but little or no new print books on the women who made sure that half the
population was also allowed to participate as citizens."
But recently PBS aired a program, "Not for Ourselves Alone: The Story of Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony", and in returning to Amazon.com for links to the book I am delighted to report that there is a resurgence of info about the first wave of feminism. We all owe a great debt to all the women activists of this era who paved the way for the women's movement and who ensured that women too would see the benefits of Jacksonian democracy.
