How can we put up that page called "Real Men Eat Quiche"? Aren't we just perpetuating the very attitudes that women hate so much-- the way men objectify women and treat them as shallow Barbie dolls of sexual fantasy? Doesn't it make us hypocrites in the first-degree and therefore render all our other opinions worthless?
Well, we don't think so. And here's why.
We have received some negative criticism regarding our quiche page, expressing sentiments similar to those listed above. Some may think the page irresponsible, and distracting from what could be considered a more serious analysis of gender roles made throughout the rest of the site.
Perhaps you feel the same. We disagree.
We feel it important to respond to such criticism because it gets at the heart of one of the main differences between second-wave feminism and what we are creating here at 3rd WWWave.
Our responses are far from monolithic because we are not monolithic, nor is the third wave of feminism. We vary widely in level of heat-- as Janis said, "it's like approaching a salsa bar blindfolded." So read on, think about it, and form your own opinion.
