Techniques
Barring
Barring is a mechanism used to create a wider range of chords, and change the key of a chord progression. It is done by pressing down on all six strings, thus shortening them.
Hammer-On
Is a technique in which the guitarist hammers a fret further down the neck while sounding a the first note, thus allowing both notes to be sounded at once.
Pull-Off
The method of achieving the opposite effect of a hammer-on. The guitarist quickly lets go of the string initially pressed while the note is still sounding, thus deepening the sound as it is being produced.
Sliding
Is a technique in which the guitarist slides the playing finger down the neck to a lower fret, thus allowing all notes between the initial and final note to be sounded at once.
Harmonic
A method of achieving the overtones of a note without actually playing the note by touching the string lightly at the fret as opposed to pressing the string before the fret.
Bending
Is a technique in which the guitarists pulls the string at the point at which the note was played to create a bending sound.
